The goal of this project is to first determine standard keyboard shortcuts and then develop a standard for keyboard shortcuts making OS X applications more intuitive.

Next Steps

  1. First a list of official keyboard shortcuts must be laid out based on the Apple Human Interface Guidelines
  2. All Apple Software should then be indexed and a list with keyboard shortcuts and outcomes must be aggregated
  3. Popular OS X software should also be considered for inclusion in the compilation
  4. Based on the compiled data, past keyboard shortcut habits and usage, and a twist of common sense the outcomes of these keyboard shortcuts can be generalized and a list and best practices can be developed
  5. Further thought should also be given what the standard would like like in a perfect world, where all existing practices are challenged in an effort to create the ideal solution.

Future Thoughts

It would be really interesting to then work at fixing all applications based on this new standard (even Apple’s Apps)
